HEART THE CAUSE!

Cue the red roses, teddy bears and chocolates, tomorrow is Valentine’s Day!! A day dedicated to L-O-V-E! It’s not just a day for romantic love but truly a day to celebrate and give the very best to those you love. In fact, some have renamed February 14th as Generosity Day, a global day of giving and helping others.
“People are hungering for something more in their lives - more connection and meaning,” says Sacha Dichter, Chief Innovation Officer for Acumen Fund. Dichter and Katya Andresen of Network for Good, launched Generosity Day on February 14, 2011 to encourage everyone across the world, to say yes to every request for help that came their way. I can’t think of a better way to show love than to say yes to those in need by either giving your time, money or resources. With over one million registered charities in the United States, it can be difficult to choose just one.
How about an organization that provides rehabilitation to addicts and ex-offenders? In light of Whitney Houston’s recent passing after a long battle with substance abuse, it’s a timely cause to support. Enter Janelle Gumbs, founder of B&R Events, a company that provides opportunities for singles to connect while bringing awareness and raising funds to support various non-profit organizations.
Tomorrow, February 14th, Gumbs in partnership with Agape Events by Kendolyn invites you to HEART THE CAUSE! Heart the Cause is an after-work mixer featuring Comedian Chris Williams and some of NY’s finest bachelors and bachelorettes. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the Genesis Transitional Housing Ministries Incorporated (GTHM Inc.), a faith-based program based in Queens, New York. Their mission is to provide services for substance abuse users, ex-offenders and homeless men and women. Services include safe drug free transitional housing, stable employment and easy access to ongoing treatment and support. In order to achieve their goals, GTHM Inc, provides a holistic approach to helping clients meet individual needs including pastoral care, housing assistance, education, group parenting skill workshops, mentoring, job training and job site coordination.
So this Valentine’s Day, Be GENEROUS. Spread LOVE. HEART THE CAUSE!
